Tour of the Sierra de Francia

The Sierra de Francia, located in the province of Salamanca, is a mountainous region with its highest point at Peña de Francia, 1,727 metres above sea level. This area is characterised by spectacular landscapes, picturesque villages and a rich biodiversity. The Sierra de Francia is known for its dense forests, crystal clear rivers and a great variety of flora and fauna.

The region is famous for its festivities, traditional half-timbered and stone architecture, and its rich gastronomy which includes dishes such as roast kid and local sausages. The villages of the Sierra de Francia, such as La Alberca and Mogarraz, are exceptional examples of heritage conservation and have been recognised as Conjuntos Históricos.

The tour will begin with a walk through La Alberca, where we will explore its cobbled streets, and visit the Plaza Mayor and the Ethnographic Museum. The tour will continue to Mogarraz to admire the portraits on the facades of the houses and visit the Church of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves.

Afterwards, we will climb the Peña de Francia to enjoy the panoramic views from the sanctuary. Later, we will visit Miranda del Castañar, to walk around the walled enclosure and visit the castle and the local church. To finish the tour, we will head to Las Batuecas Valley for a short hiking route.
